The tourist season is not over yet, and Spanish hotels have already begun to cut prices. The reason was the growth in demand for travel to Turkey, Tunisia and Egypt.
Details
- From 2013 to 2017, Spanish hoteliers raised their prices by an average of 21.4%, according to official statistics. But the second half of 2018 was not very good for the country's tourism sector - in six months, the number of foreign tourists grew by only 2% after double-digit growth in 2016 and 2017.
- The tourism sector of Turkey, Tunisia and Egypt, on the contrary, is experiencing an increase this season. Tunisia recorded a 40% increase in the number of tourists in the first half of 2018, and Turkey by almost a third, Reuters points out. Tourists have begun to return to resorts that they tried to avoid after the military coup attempt in Turkey in the summer of 2016 and attacks by militants.
- Spain's mid-range hotels are particularly hard hit by competition from cheaper all-inclusive packages. For this reason, one hotel chain in the Balearic Islands was forced to cut prices by about 15%, and Ibiza hotels by an average of 10-20%. Competition with cheap tours in particular is for tourists from Germany and the UK, said representatives of the sector.
However, in Russia this decrease in prices was hardly noticed. Representatives of Russian tour operators interviewed by The Bell did not record any changes in the cost of tours to Spain. "Prices for tours retain the traditional indicators of this period of the year," the press service of the Biblio-Globus tour operator told The Bell. In the KMP Group company, the cost of tour packages for August in the Spanish direction remained unchanged, The Bell was told in the press service of the tour operator. The same publication was reported in the travel company "PAX".
