Putin signed laws on increasing VAT and on new rules for holding film festivals

On August 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a number of laws adopted by parliament during the spring session, including increasing VAT from 18% to 20%.

The president also signed a law on film festivals, which representatives of the film industry asked to send for revision . Other laws signed by Putin include the law on native languages ​​and on choosing a wedding day when submitting an application to the registry office .

• The government announced the decision to increase VAT in June, simultaneously with the decision to raise the retirement age (this law was adopted only in the first reading). As Vedomosti wrote, with this measure the authorities want to receive part of the money to implement Vladimir Putin’s new “May decree,” which involves increasing life expectancy and reducing poverty in Russia and requires at least eight trillion rubles.
