Actor Steven Seagal was appointed special representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry on humanitarian ties with the United States

Actor Steven Seagal has been appointed special representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry for Russian-American humanitarian relations. This was reported on the department's Facebook page.

Segal's tasks will be "to promote the further development of Russian-American relations in the humanitarian sphere, including interaction in the field of culture, art, social and youth exchanges, and so on."

The department also notes that Seagal's position does not imply any monetary reward. She, according to the ministry, can be compared with the position of "UN Goodwill Ambassador."

Seagal himself told TASS that he had always sought to improve Russian-American relations. “I worked in this direction, without having an official status, and now it is a great honor for me to do the same officially,” he said.

The US State Department declined to comment on Segal's appointment.

Seagal received Russian citizenship in November 2016. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that obtaining Russian citizenship was the desire of Seagal himself. For the actor, Russian citizenship has become the third: in addition to the US passport, he has citizenship of Serbia, which he received in 2015.
