The priest visited Sentsov in the colony

Priest Bohdan Vasilyuk visited penal colony No. 8 (IK-8) in Labytnangi, where Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov is being held. This was reported on the website of the administration of the Federal Penitentiary Service (UFSIN) of Russia for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District.

According to the agency, Vasilyuk went to the medical unit of the colony where Sentsov is located and asked about his condition. He replied that he "feels fine and is under the supervision of medical professionals." The report also says that Sentsov has no complaints about the conditions of his detention.

Vasilyuk invited Sentsov to confess and talk in private, but he refused, saying that he did not need the help of a clergyman.

Earlier, priest Grigory Mikhnov-Vaitenko was not allowed to visit Sentsov in the colony due to the lack of necessary documents. According to the Federal Penitentiary Service, the clergyman had a power of attorney from the Apostolic Church to visit colonies in the Northwestern Federal District, and IK-8 belongs to the Urals Federal District.

Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov was sentenced in Russia to 20 years on charges of plotting terrorist attacks in Crimea. Since May 14, Sentsov has been on a hunger strike, demanding that the Russian authorities release all Ukrainian political prisoners. He does not include himself among them. Sentsov was supported by many Russian and foreign cultural figures and human rights activists.
