Yamal: FSIN explained the refusal to let the priest go to Oleg Sentsov

The Press Bureau of the FSIN issued a statement that explains the reasons for the refusal to put the priest of the Apostolic Orthodox Church of Father Gregory to the Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov, who was serving a 20-year term in the Russian colony.

According to the statement, the clergy are invited to the prisoners at their request, but "no such request from the convicted Sentsov to the leadership of IK-8 was received."

At the same time, the FSIN emphasized that the department concluded an agreement on interaction with the Russian Orthodox Church and for "IK-8 is assigned the clergyman of the Russian Orthodox Church Father Maxim."

On July 31, Colonel Novikov, the head of the FSIN Department for the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, refused to visit Oleg Sentsov to the bishop of the Apostolic Orthodox Church to Father Grigory (Mikhnova-Vitenko). According to the clergyman, at first the colonel met him extremely kindly - until he found out which of the prisoners he would like to meet. After that, Novikov changed his face and said that he did not see the appropriateness in the meeting. The bishop noted that his "attempts to appeal to the law, mind, conscience and mercy have not led to anything."

Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov was sentenced to 20 years in Russia on charges of preparing terrorist attacks in Crimea. He does not admit his guilt. On May 14, he announced a hunger strike with the demand to release from Russian prisons all Ukrainian political prisoners, which he still has not stopped. Sentsov’s condition worsens every day , but he repeatedly stated that he would hold the hunger strike “to the end”.
