1888 Grigory Sokolnikov was born

130 years ago, on August 15, 1888, Grigory Sokolnikov (Hirsch Brilliant), a Soviet party and statesman, People's Commissar for Finance in 1922-1926, was born, the author of the successful monetary reform of 1922-1924, which made it possible to defeat hyperinflation and stabilize the ruble exchange rate.

Being a supporter of Trotsky, Sokolnikov was repeatedly repressed, and at the trial of the "Parallel Anti-Soviet Trotskyist Center" in January 1937 he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In May 1939, he was strangled by the NKVD in the Verkhneuralsk political isolator. In 1988 he was rehabilitated.
