Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov was arrested for 30 days

On August 14, the Meshchansky District Court arrested Sergei Udaltsov, coordinator of the Left Front and a confidant of the candidate for mayor of Moscow from the Communist Party Vadim Kumin, for 30 days. This was tweeted by his wife Anastasia Udaltsova.

The activist was found guilty under Part 8 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (repeated violation of the procedure for holding a public event). The protocol was drawn up because of a rally against pension reform, which took place in Moscow on July 28.

Udaltsov, as his wife writes , was accused of “destroying portraits of persons resembling state leaders at a rally on July 28.” She noted that no one made any claims to the activist that day.

Sergei Udaltsov calls the accusation far-fetched and believes that he was arrested in order to "prevent him from organizing new protests against the pension reform, in particular the march and rally on September 2."

Anastasia also said that the activist went on a hunger strike.

Grani tweeted a video showing Udaltsov burning portraits of Federation Council Chairman Valentina Matvienko, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin and Accounts Chamber head Sergei Kudrin during a rally on July 28.

• Sergei Udaltsov was detained on August 14. He was taken to the police department in the Krasnoselsky district, where they drew up a protocol on an administrative offense.
• A draft law on a phased increase in the retirement age in the country from 2019 was submitted to the State Duma. A petition on Change.org against the reform has already garnered almost three million signatures.
