The prosecution asked for a real sentence for the suspect in the attack on Nikolai Lyaskin

The former coordinator of the Moscow headquarters of Alexei Navalny Nikolai Lyaskin and his lawyer Vladimir Voronin requested a real term for Alexei Shcherbakov, a suspect in the attack on Lyaskin. It is reported by Mediazona.

“How and for how long, this, probably, should be decided by the court, but I believe that this person should not be free, the person who attacked with a metal pipe should not walk the streets freely,” Lyaskin said at the meeting and asked “ maximum punishment" for the defendant. Voronin demanded that the court either reclassify the accusation from the article on battery (Article 116 of the Criminal Code) to the article on hooliganism (Article 213 of the Criminal Code), or return the case to the prosecutor.

Shcherbakov's lawyer Alexander Kuznetsov asked to acquit his client, noting that the man, having hit Lyaskin, did not intentionally inflict severe injuries on him. According to Kuznetsov, the activist himself asked to stage his attack in order to become more famous and discredit the current government. At the meeting, the lawyer read a poem, which, in his opinion, describes the conflict between Lyaskin and Shcherbakov: “Night. Victim. Flashlight. Trumpet, blow, another blow. There is no harm to health. Staged is the answer. Shcherbakov himself admitted his guilt.

The court scheduled the announcement of the verdict for Alexei Shcherbakov on August 17.

• Nikolai Lyaskin was attacked on September 15, 2017 - he was hit on the head with a metal pipe wrapped in newspaper. As a result of the attack, the former coordinator of Navalny's headquarters received a concussion and a closed craniocerebral injury.
• After the attack, the Interior Ministry opened a criminal case under Article 213 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism). Later, the charge was reclassified to a softer article 116 of the Criminal Code (beatings).
• Shcherbakov stated that he received an order from Lyaskin to stage an attack for a reward of 150 thousand rubles. The defendant emphasized that he had no intention of killing or seriously injuring the coordinator.
