Moscow authorities refused to approve the holding of Velonoch in the city, the project’s founder, historian Sergei Nikitin, told Meduza.
Officials banned the event on August 17. According to Nikitin, the project was rejected by Deputy Mayor of Moscow Maxim Liksutov. Nikitin does not say what caused the rejection.
"The commission headed by [Liksutov] met on the fortieth day after the first document was submitted by the organizers. During this time, not a single comment was made by the executive or law enforcement agencies, which supported the event year after year, blocked traffic on the capital's roads, and ensured the safety of the educational event on bicycles," Nikitin said in a statement.
At the time of publication of the news on the website and in the social networks of Velonoch there was no information about the cancellation of the event.
