Searches were carried out in the house and office of former Armenian President Kocharyan

Employees of the Special Investigation Service of Armenia conducted a search in the office and mansion of the country's former president Robert Kocharyan. The department's press service reported this to TASS on Monday, August 20. The results of the special event are a secret of the investigation, the service noted.

On July 26, the Special Investigation Service of Armenia charged Kocharyan with the violent overthrow of the constitutional order in 2008 and went to court to choose arrest as a preventive measure. On the same day, the ex-president of the country was interrogated by investigators as part of a criminal case about murders at opposition protests on March 1-2, 2008.

The next day, Kocharyan was taken into custody by court decision. On August 13, the Yerevan Court of Appeal decided to release Kocharyan due to the fact that he enjoys constitutional immunity. Robert Kocharyan was the President of Armenia from 1998 to 2008.

On August 20, the Armenian Prosecutor's Office will appeal to the Court of Cassation the decision of the Court of Appeal to release Kocharyan from arrest. Arevik Khachatryan, head of the information and public relations department of the Armenian Prosecutor's Office, told Armenpress about this.

Investigators believe that the former President of Armenia “by prior agreement with other persons, overthrew the Constitutional system of the Republic of Armenia.” On March 1-2, 2008, mass protests took place against violations in the presidential elections. As a result, 10 people died. The rallies ended after Kocharyan introduced a state of emergency in the country.
