TASS: a Chechen who tried to blow himself up at a police checkpoint in the Shalinsky district died in hospital

On August 20, it became known that several attacks on police officers had occurred in different regions of Chechnya . According to the Investigative Committee, at about 10:30 two young men with knives tried to enter the territory of the Shali Department of Internal Affairs. They wounded two policemen. Around the same time, another person approached the police post in the village of Mesker-Yurt and tried to blow himself up. No police officers were injured in this attack.

At the entrance to Grozny, a Mercedes-Benz car tried to hit a policeman at a checkpoint. After this, the “Interception” plan was announced. Trying to hide from the security forces, the car hit two traffic police officers. The attackers were killed.

RIA Novosti also reported shooting at the intersection of Pervomaiskaya Street and Khusein Isaev Avenue, which is located next to the Heart of Chechnya mosque and the Grozny City Hall. According to the agency, a police officer was killed as a result of the attack. The Investigative Committee did not report this incident; the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not confirm the death of a policeman in Grozny.

As Kommersant wrote , in the end, four attackers were killed and five police officers were injured. At the same time, the regional Ministry of Health reported to TASS that three security forces were injured; their condition is assessed as stable. One of them has severe injuries, the second has moderate injuries, and the third has light injuries.

After the attacks, the Investigative Committee opened three cases of encroachment on the lives of law enforcement officers (Article 317 of the Criminal Code). According to Chechnya's Minister for National Policy, External Relations, Press and Information Dzhambulat Umarov, the eldest of the attackers who ran over the police in Grozny was almost 17 years old, the youngest was 11 years old - he was sitting in the passenger seat.
