The court extended the arrest of the head of the Karelian “Memorial” Yuri Dmitriev

The Petrozavodsk City Court extended the arrest of the head of the Karelian branch of Memorial, Yuri Dmitriev, for two months, a reports from the courtroom. 7x7 correspondent

The historian will remain in custody until October 26. According to lawyer Viktor Anufriev, the preliminary investigation into Dmitriev’s second case of sexual assault against a minor (clause “b” of Part 4 of Article 132 of the Criminal Code) has already been completed.

“We have already been notified that the preliminary investigation has ended. Starting next Monday, we can begin to familiarize ourselves with the materials of the criminal case. Somewhere 20 days before the end of the arrest period, the case should be transferred to the court, five days to the prosecutor's office. I think that somewhere in early October the case will be sent to court,” Anufriev said.

Yuri Dmitriev was detained on June 27 while leaving Petrozavodsk. The court sent him to a pre-trial detention center. According to the investigation, Dmitriev “committed violent acts of a sexual nature” against his adopted daughter.

According to Anufriev, the case was opened on July 28 based on two conversations with Dmitriev’s adopted daughter. The first time, the girl was interviewed by her own grandmother and a psychologist, and the second time by a psychologist and an investigator. According to the lawyer, the investigator “specifically tried to get from her information that would be, so to speak, murderous for Yuri Alekseevich.”

As part of this criminal case, the historian was sent to St. Petersburg for a psychiatric examination. As 7x7 writes, Dmitriev and his lawyer will get acquainted with its results on August 22.

The second case was opened two weeks after the Supreme Court of Karelia overturned the acquittal in Dmitriev’s first case. In April, the Petrozavodsk City Court acquitted the historian on charges of producing pornography and indecent acts (clause “c” of Part 2 of Article 242.2 of the Criminal Code and Article 135 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced him to two and a half years of restriction of freedom under the article on possession of weapons (Article 222 of the Criminal Code) . The first case was opened because of photographs of naked Dmitriev’s adopted daughter, which he stored on his computer.
