Gennady Timchenko announced plans to build the world's largest ice arena in St. Petersburg. For 20 billion rubles

In St. Petersburg, by 2023, it is planned to build the world's largest ice palace, announced the president of the SKA hockey club Gennady Timchenko.

It is assumed, said Timchenko, that in the hockey configuration the new arena will accommodate up to 22.5 thousand people. The Ice Palace, he said, is also planned to be used for concerts.

The estimated cost of the project is "at least 20 billion rubles, or even more," Timchenko said, adding that this was not about state funding, but about a "private enterprise."

• Gennady Timchenko has been president of the St. Petersburg hockey club SKA since 2011. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and Vice President of the Russian Olympic Committee.
