Republican Senator John McCain has died at the age of 82, CNN reports , citing a statement from the politician's office.

Last July, McCain was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain tumor, during surgery to remove a hematoma from under his eye. On August 24, 2018, his family announced McCain's refusal of her treatment in a statement: "Over the past year, John has exceeded expectations for how long he will live. But the progression of the disease and the inexorable influence of age have rendered their verdict.”
