Yuri Korny, accused in connection with the Maltsev revolution, stopped his hunger strike

In Moscow, Yuri Korny, accused in connection with the “revolution” of Vyacheslav Maltsev, ended the hunger strike he had been on since July 4. This is stated in his letter, the text of which was published on Facebook by activist Maria Ryabikova on August 26.

On August 15, it became known that Kornywas transferred from the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center to the hospital at the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center.

In the letter, Korny writes that he stopped his hunger strike on August 20 due to kidney problems.

The prisoner’s lawyer, Artem Ovcharov, was unable to confirm to OVD-Info the information about the end of the hunger strike, since he was currently away on a business trip.

The defense attorney also added that he still cannot visit Kornoy: from the moment he entered the case, the lawyer tried to meet with the investigator to provide him with a warrant and remove obstacles to visiting his client. But the investigators, according to the lawyer, ignored his attempts to contact them and avoided meetings.

On August 3, the lawyer sent the investigator a registered letter with a warrant and a request to be allowed to see Kornoy. On August 15, he received notification that the letter had been delivered, but “there was no reaction.” In this regard, Ovcharov filed a complaint about inaction in accordance with Articles 124 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to the prosecutor's office and to the court.

After this, the Lefortovo District Court rejected the complaint on the grounds that Korny allegedly did not agree to have his interests represented by Ovcharov. According to the lawyer, the employees of the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center were warned that he needed to meet with the prisoner. But they cannot convey this information to Kornoy himself, because he is currently in the hospital.

• Yuri Korny and two other defendants in the case - Andrei Tolkachev and Andrei Keptya - are accused of participating in a terrorist community (Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, they planned to set fire to decorations and garbage piled near Red Square in Moscow.
• The Artpodgotovka movement, led by Maltsev, was declared extremist on October 26.
