Joseph Kobzon died after illness

Singer Iosif Kobzon died in Moscow. He represented the regions of Eastern Siberia in the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

The legendary singer died after a long illness, died at the age of 80, reports TASS with reference to his wife's assistant.

Iosif Kobzon was born in 1937 on the territory of Ukraine, graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk Mining College, where he first began performing in public. He was a People's Artist of the USSR, laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize, in 2016 he became a Hero of Russia.

In 2015, Kobzon was awarded the title of hero of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic of Ukraine, has been a member of United Russia since 2003.

In 2017, a lifetime monument was opened to Kobzon in the Aginsky Buryat district of the Trans-Baikal Territory. He was elected from this district to the State Duma in 1997. Then the singer represented Transbaikalia, in 2016 he went on the general list of "ER" in the Irkutsk region, Buryatia and Transbaikalia. Busts of him and two shepherds-heroes of Russia cost the regional government 3.3 million rubles.
