US President Donald Trump threatened the state’s exit from the World Trade Organization, if it does not change. He stated this in an interview with Bloomberg.
Trump called an agreement on the creation of the WTO signed by Washington, "the worst ever concluded trading transaction."
It is noted that the possible exit of the States from the WTO against the backdrop of the ongoing trade war with China will be a larger event for the global economy than this trade dispute. This will be the first case of the country's exit from the WTO.
The president added that the United States last year they began to “win a lot” in trade disputes, although they were often a loser. “You know why? Because they know that if we do not do this (we will not win the dispute. - Ed.), I will leave there (from the WTO. - Ed.),” Trump explained.
On Tuesday, the United States sent a request for consultations with Moscow for a number of goods - this is the first step in the procedure for filing a lawsuit in the WTO. The lawsuit was filed due to the decision to increase tariffs for the import of American equipment into Russia . The Russian authorities responded to the introduction of Trump to import duties into the United States and aluminum from Russia. Press Secretary of Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin is not considered normal “filing a lawsuit and in response” will use the entire wide palette of counterarguments. ”
In July, Trump said that the States for many years suffer heavy losses due to the "very bad" RUNE of the WTO and the agreement on the creation of the organization should be changed. During the election campaign in 2016, he advocated an exit from the organization.
On July 2, Axios published the text of the bill developed by the White House, which will allow Washington to ignore two key principles of the WTO: the ban on establishing different tariff rates for different countries and the ban to depart from tariff restrictions established in the organization. It was noted that the adoption of the document will be equivalent to the withdrawal of Washington from the organization.
On June 29, Axios said that Trump told his advisers about his intention to leave the WTO. “I don’t know why we are in the organization. The WTO was created to destroy the United States,” the sources of the publication quoted the president.
Trump himself denied the intention to leave the WTO. “I'm not talking about the way out. But we were very poorly treated, this is an unfair situation,” he said .
During his stay at the presidential post, Trump had already broken two international treaties concluded before him - a nuclear deal with Iran and the Paris Climate Agreement.
