The American Library of Bill Clinton did not coordinate with the Kremlin the publication of negotiations between the former US President and the first Russian President Boris Yeltsin concerning Vladimir Putin. Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters about this.

“No, they did not agree, there were no consultations,” Peskov said.

He added that there is a practice of declassifying such conversations. “They are not always subject to declassification; as a rule, of course, documents that relate to current politicians are not declassified. This is a global practice,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

On Friday, appeared on the website of Bill Clinton's presidential library previously unpublished transcripts of conversations between the former US president and Yeltsin . In a conversation on September 8, 1999, Yeltsin told Clinton that he had chosen Putin, who became chairman of the Russian government in August of that year, as his successor.

Yeltsin described Putin as a tough man with an inner core and expressed confidence that he would win the elections: “ He will continue Yeltsin’s line on democracy and economic development and will expand contacts with Russia. He has the energy and brains to succeed."
