1973 Explosion in Lenin's Mausoleum

45 years ago, on September 1, 1973, an unknown attacker, hiding a pre-made explosive device under his clothes, walked in a group of schoolchildren to the Lenin Mausoleum. The guard mistook him for a teacher. Having caught up with the sarcophagus with the body of Lenin, the terrorist connected the contacts of the wires on the explosive device, as a result of which an explosion occurred.

As it was later established, the main force of the explosion fell on the sarcophagus, but that one, protected by armored glass, remained unharmed. As a result of the explosion, the terrorist himself and the married couple following him, who arrived from Astrakhan, were killed. Four school-age children were seriously injured, and the soldiers of the Kremlin regiment guarding the sarcophagus were thrown back by the blast.

From the terrorist at the site of the explosion, only a hand and a fragment of the head were found. Fragments of documents found on his remains testified that it was a man previously sentenced to 10 years in prison, but it is still unknown whether these documents belonged to the deceased.
