The Russian Ministry of Defense accused the United States of promoting the attack of the Syrian rebels on Palmyra, RBC reports with reference to the statement of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties.

According to the Russian military, on Saturday, about 5 a.m., 36 kilometers southeast of Palmyra, a clashed of Bashar al-Assad troops with a sabotage group of rebels, who tried to break through the ET Tanf in Muhafaz Homs, where the military base of the coalition headed is located in the direction of Palmyra. It is claimed that two rebels were killed, two more government forces were captured - they give testimony.

According to the Ministry of Defense, captured rebels said that the East Lions group was preparing a breakthrough on Palmyra. About 500 people consist in this structure, its camp (where, according to the Ministry of Defense, the rebels are being prepared) is located at the American base. "Eastern Lions" are at war with the "Islamic state." In the center, according to the reconciliation of the parties, it is stated that the task of the sabotage group was "Conducting a series of terrorist attacks in the Palmyra area and preparing the breakthrough of the main forces of the group that was supposed to capture the city." According to the Russian military, the prisoners admitted that the participants in the breakthrough were prepared by American military instructors, and weapons and ammunition were supplied from the base of the Western coalition.

In July last year, CNN reported that the US presidential administration Donald Trump turned the training and weapons program for moderate Syrian rebels, which the CIA was led. This program was started in 2013 by the Barack Obama administration.

Palmyra several times passed from hand to hand between Assad’s forces supported by Russia, and the “Islamic state”, until it was finally repulsed by government forces in March 2017.

In the near future, the beginning of Assad forces on Muhafaz Idlib in the north -west of Syria is expected - one of the last zones in the country held by the rebels. Moscow accuses the rebels of Idlib of preparing the staging of Himakaki, while the United States, on the contrary, is afraid of Himakaki from Assad forces. On Saturday, CNN reported that the United States has already compiled a list of Syrian chemical weapons production, which can be struck in case of a new application by the Assad of Poisoning Substances.
