Hello!
At the end of last week, we asked you to write to the editors of "Evening Medusa" what newsletters you still read. We received a mountain of letters (thank you), it's time to sort them out. Here's what turned out:
Firstly , many of you read, together with Vechernyaya Meduza, the newsletters of our colleagues from socio-political publications - hello, the authors of the newsletters of Novaya Gazeta, Dozhd, Republic, Mel, Mediazona, Carnegie. RU"!
Secondly , the readers of "Evening Medusa" are passionate about projects that are designed primarily as a mailing list, and then like everything else. These are The Bell of Elizaveta Osetinskaya, 7:40 (project of "Present Time"; mailing comes to the post office at 7.40 "Odessa time"), " Espresso " (also a morning mailing, huge; communicates with readers on "you"). There are even people who read Ivan Survillo's mailing list - he came to Riga to visit our Farm Journalism School and interviewed almost everyone at Meduza (here's an example ).
Thirdly , distributions of science popularizers are still popular among our readers - in the range from the humanitarian "Arzamas", "Gorky", "Shelves" and "Theories and Practices" to natural science (well, not only natural science) N + 1, not excluding Puzzle English about English. And, of course, there are a lot of special mailings - accounting (" Night Accountant "), financial ( Finimize ), legal (" Garant ") and even chemical ( C&EN ) and mathematical ( Quanta magazine ). In the same paragraph, I would like to mention the popular among our readers T-Zh (Tinkoff Bank magazine), InLiberty (educational platform), as well as mailing lists from the publishing house Mann, Ivanov and Ferber ( MIF ).
Fourth , and this is surprising: no one (well, almost no one) reads the newsletters that we at Meduza read every morning: Quartz, Vox, The Guardian, The New York Times, The Skimm. When we asked the same question about mailing lists a few years ago, no, no, and yes, they flickered in the answers - now they are in the absolute minority. Apparently we're tired!
And finally, the most important (and most selfish): the mailing lists that we subscribed to thanks to you. This is The Hustle , a newsletter about business and technology, written in natural (English) language, which ends with a set of amazing facts (for example, if you start counting in English, you will close your lips for the first time when you reach a million!) . And this is Brain Pickings - a literary and philosophical mailing list that exists in two versions: Sunday and midweek. We haven't received one yet, so we can't recommend it, but it seems intriguing.
Thank you!
Yours Grisha Levchenko and Sasha Polivanov
