NBC: The United States suspect Russia of involvement in "acoustic attacks" in Cuba and China

The US intelligence services are suspected by Russia of involvement in "acoustic attacks" on American diplomats who worked in Cuba and China. This was reported by NBC News with reference to three American officials and two other sources familiar with the course of the investigation.

The involvement of Moscow in the incidents in Cuba and in China indicates a certain correspondence intercepted by American intelligence - sources refused to explain its origin.

It is noted that the American authorities are not enough evidence in order to officially accuse Moscow.

The investigation of incidents in American diplomatic agents are engaged in the CIA, FBI, and other American intelligence services.

Now the US military is trying to determine the type of weapon with the help of reverse engineering, which was possibly used against diplomats. According to the main assumption, microwave radiation or other type of electromagnetic weapon was used against diplomatic employees. The use of another or more technologies for the malware in addition to microwave radiation is also not excluded.

Since the end of 2016, the US Embassy in Cuba began to complain about "acoustic attacks", this year the incidents continued. Among the symptoms mentioned there were poor health, nausea, hearing loss, headaches and difficulties with orientation in space, difficulties with sleep. It was reported that their first victims were intelligence officers, which were seconded to the embassy. They heard unusual loud sounds, similar to curtailed curtains, inside their housing in Havana and on the street. Some of the scouts lost their hearing or received brain damage. On September 29, 2017, the State Department recalled most of the diplomatic officers in Cuba out of fear for their health and recommended that the Americans not visit the country. The last time about the complaint of an embassy employee in Havana about the symptoms of an “acoustic attack” was reported in June - since 2016, 25 people have suffered from unknown influence.

The evacuation of most of the American diplomats from Cuba led to a significant weakening of the diplomatic relations of the two countries, which, after a gap in 1961, were restored only in 2015.

On July 1, The New York Times reported that the US State Department evacuated 11 of his employees from China with symptoms resembling the consequences of “acoustic attacks”. Eight people were sent to their homeland for a medical examination from the consulate in Guangzhou, one from the consulate in Shanghai and two more from the American embassy in Beijing.

Diplomats taken out of China complained of abnormal sounds and sensations. The first evacuated consulate employee in Guangzhou, who was taken to the United States in April, was diagnosed with a slight traumatic brain injury.
