It is curious that swimmer Evgeniy Rylov received the award in the Athlete of the Year category according to GQ Russia . In the voting, he beat UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, football player Fedor Smolov and hockey player Nikita Gusev.

Last season, Rylov won gold at the World Championships in Budapest in the 200 m backstroke, and he also won bronze in the 4x100 m medley relay. At the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow, the Russian took two golds and two silvers.
