The Kremlin wants the resignation of the head of Khakassia

The governor of Khakassia, Viktor Zimin, should resign before the second round of elections for the head of the region, the Kremlin believes. In the first round, Zimin lost to the Communist Party candidate Valentin Konovalov.

As Vedomosti’s source in the presidential administration says, an “uncontrollable situation” has developed in Khakassia: “External financial management has been introduced there, there is no money for salaries of public sector employees. The presidential administration wants Zimin to write a letter of resignation before the second round: let anyone be there, as long as it’s not him.”

As political scientist Mikhail Vinogradov wrote for NT , in Khakassia previously “they did everything to weaken the current governor Viktor Zimin. Even his closest associates were arrested. But they forgot the most important thing - to fire Zimin.” Perhaps Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stood up for him.

“In the end, Zimin was left, but why they did this was not explained. Meanwhile, political problems were growing in the republic, the city councils of the largest cities opposed the pension reform, in addition, the authorities decided to combine elections of four levels on one day, as a result of which each level of government began to work for itself,” says Vinogradov.
