Reuters: Türkiye transfers troops and equipment to Idlib

Turkey transfer its troops and equipment to the Syrian Muhafaz Idlib, controlled by the opposition, strengthening the military presence at its army posts in the region, reports Reuters with reference to sources among the rebels, as well as Turkish officials and security forces.

According to a senior representative of the Syrian rebels, Türkiye sent dozens of tanks and armored vehicles to Idlib, as well as hundreds of representatives of its special services. A high -ranking Turkish security official specified that the military presence was strengthened at 12 Turkish posts in Muhafaz. In addition, according to the rebels, ammunition and missiles are delivered to Idlib from Turkey.

Turkish observation posts in Idlib were created last year under the terms of the agreement on the creation of de -escalation zones in Syria, to which Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump came. The three other such zones created in the south of Syria near the border with Jordan, in the east and north of Damascus, were subsequently captured by the army of the dictator Bashar al -Assad and the union with irregular formations.

According to the Turkish security officer, any attack on the Turkish military in the event of the forces of Assad on Idlib with the support of Iran and Russia "will be considered an attack on Turkey and will receive the necessary rebuff."

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the attack on Idlib would lead to the death of hundreds of thousands of people. Ankara insists that Syrian refugees can no longer accept, and accuses the West that Turkey was left one on one with the consequences of Assad’s victory in the Syrian conflict.

On September 7, at a summit in Tehran Putin, Erdogan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani could not agree on a truce in Syria. Putin said peace negotiations are impossible in the absence of representatives of the armed opposition and the Syrian authorities. Erdogan, in turn, warned that the offensive on Idlib would lead to a "bloody massacre" and a "humanitarian catastrophe."
