Reuters: Trump on Wednesday will sign a new decree on sanctions for interference in the elections

The US Poisail Donald Trump on Wednesday is going to sign a new decree on sanctions against foreign individuals and companies for interfering in American elections, Reuters reports with reference to two sources.

Sanctions in accordance with a new decree can affect any foreigner or a foreign company that intervenes in the elections in the United States with the help of cyber attacks or in other ways. The intervention in the elections in the draft decree refers to attempts to hack "electronic infrastructure", as well as efforts to change public opinion using coordinated digital propaganda or systematic leaks of private political information.

The administration of Barack Obama and Trump has already imposed personal sanctions for interfering in the elections against employees of the Russian special services, and the White House at Trump - against the employees of the "troll factory" of the St. Petersburg oligarch Evgeny Prigozhin.

The decree will give the authority to determine what is an interference with the elections to several American agencies under the leadership of the Director of National Intelligence - CIA, ACI, and the Ministry of Internal Security.

The new decree will be released against the backdrop of the training of American special services, military and law enforcement officers to protect against possible foreign intervention in the intermediate elections to Congress, which will be held on November 6.

Whether any other sanctions measures in addition to restrictions regarding specific persons and companies will be provided, is not specified.

The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal previously reported earlier decree projects. On August 9, WP wrote that most of the most painful measures for the country, according to the document, are introduced by decision of the president. One of them is the possibility of imposing sanctions against 10 of the 30 largest companies in the country. The only mandatory measure that was provided for by the document in the old edition is personal sanctions against foreigners.
