Rospotrebnadzor wants to protect the genome of Russians, equating it to personal data. This was announced at the Eastern Economic Forum by the head of the department Anna Popova, clarifying that the relevant bill has already been agreed and should become a response to the development of modern technologies.
“Knowledge about my genome is my personal data, and let me dispose of it, and not to someone outsider,” Popova emphasized.
In October last year, at a meeting of the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights (SPC), Russian President Vladimir Putin wondered for what purpose the citizens of foreign states collect the "biological material of Russians" .
The president then added that this activity is carried out in Russia "purposefully and professionally", clarifying that he received information from the special services.
Later, the Pentagon stated that they announced a tender for the supply of biomaterials from Russia for researching the musculoskeletal system.
