1853. Sofya Perovskaya was born

165 years ago, on September 13, 1853, Sofya Perovskaya, the leader of the Popular Volya party, organized the murder of Emperor Alexander II on March 13, 1881 and soon then captured by the police.

Before the execution, she wrote to her mother:

“I don’t grieve about my fate at all, I met her completely calmly, since I knew and expected that sooner or later, but it would be so. And right, my dear mamul, she’s not so gloomy at all. I lived as my beliefs told me; therefore I was not able to act against them; therefore, with a calm conscience, I expect everything that was coming to me.”
