Acting head of Khakassia, United Russia candidate Viktor Zimin withdrew his candidacy from the vote for the head of the region, which was to be held on September 23.

“Zimin wrote a statement to the election commission about withdrawing his candidacy from the elections for health reasons,” told Interfax . a source in the election commission

TASS, citing the CEC of the Russian Federation, reports that the candidate from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Valentin Konovalov and Right-wing Russian Andrei Filyagin, who took third place in the first round, should take part in the second round of voting.

In accordance with the law, after the withdrawal of Zimin's candidacy, the second round of voting will take place in two weeks, if Flyagin agrees to compete with Konovalov. If he does not want to, then Konovalov will participate in the second round alone, in order to win he will have to gain 51% of the votes.

According to the results of voting on September 9 in Khakassia, it was not possible to determine the winner. Communist Party candidate Valentin Konovalov overtook Zimin with 44.81%. 32.42% of voters voted for the acting governor.

It was reported that the Kremlin was waiting for Zimin's resignation before the second round of elections for the head of the region.
