Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Kazbek Kokov as acting head of Kabardino-Balkaria.
Yuri Kokov, who headed the region until recently, according to the president, asked to be transferred to work in Moscow.
Update: Yuri Kokov was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council by presidential decree.
Earlier, on September 26, Putin replaced the head of the Astrakhan region.
- Kazbek Kokov's father Valery headed Kabardino-Balkaria from 1992 to 2005.
- Since 2013, Kazbek Kokov has been an adviser to the regional presidential department for domestic policy, where he oversaw the entire North Caucasus region.
- In Kabardino-Balkaria, direct elections of the head of the region have been abolished since 2014. He is appointed by parliament, choosing from three candidates proposed by the President of Russia.
