
The investigating authorities opened a criminal case against officials of the administration of Chelyabinsk and MUP Gorekocenter, who allowed the garbage collapse in the city, Interfax reports.
The case was instituted after prosecutors under Part 1 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence). In addition, numerous violations in the activities of organizations that collect and transport waste were identified. 21 administrative cases have been instituted, materials were sent for consideration to environmental bodies, the press service of the regional prosecutor's office said.
The prosecutor's office also raised the question of initiating criminal cases in relation to the head of Gorekocenter+LLC under Part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (performance of work or the provision of services that do not meet security requirements) and the director of the MUE GOREKocenter - under Part 1 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence).
An informed source explained to the agency that in the framework of the criminal case, involvement in criminal negligence of not only officials, but also officials of commercial organizations who refused to export garbage from the city will be clarified.
The prosecutor’s office previously sent to the investigating authorities a requirement to initiate criminal cases against the heads of Gorekocenter+LLC and MUP Gorekocenter, who allowed the garbage collapse in Chelyabinsk and the Investigative Committee opened one criminal case on suspicion of the uncertain circle of persons.
“Specific perpetrators will be established during the investigation,” the agency’s interlocutor explained.
In Chelyabinsk, an emergency mode was introduced due to garbage blocks. For the liquidation of the formed landfills from the reserve fund of the budget, 14 million rubles were allocated, another 88 million was sent from the regional treasury.
The problems began after the closure of the old city dump. Carriers refused to carry garbage to the landfill to the village of Poletaevo, referring to losses due to the increased costs of the road.
