The Executive Committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) on Thursday at a meeting at the headquarters in the Swiss Nyon decided to introduce a video help system of arbitrators (VAR) in the champions of the 2019/20 season and the final stage of the nearest championship of the continent.
As UEFA press service clarifies, VAR will be used in the Champions League starting from the playoffs of the tournament qualification.
“We are sure that the introduction of VAR in August 2019 will give us enough time to create a reliable system and prepare judges for effective and successful working with this system in the Champions League,” said UEFA President Alexander Cheferin, who previously showed himself as an enemy of video recovers .
The VAR system will also be used in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup, the final tournament of the European Championship 2020, the European League from the season-2020/21 and at the final stage of the League of Nations in 2021.
Recall that the video survey system was used at the World Cup in Russia in 2018, and it was the first to test it in the United States at MLS matches.
Now it is also used on an ongoing basis in the national championships of Germany, Italy, Spain and other European leagues.
