Yandex.Taxi has adapted the service for drivers with hearing impairments

The Yandex.Taxi service has released updates that facilitate communication between drivers with hearing impairments and passengers. The press service of the service reports this.

In Yandex.Taxi applications, passengers will see a notification if a driver who is hard of hearing is driving towards them. The application will ask you to indicate your arrival address before the start of your trip, so that you don’t have to find it out along the way. Users will also be warned that in order to contact the driver they do not need to call, but write to the chat.

For taxi drivers with hearing impairments, the Taxometer application, with which they accept orders, will be updated. Sound signals in the application will be replaced with visual ones: when a notification is received, the screen will flash and the gadget will vibrate.

Not all organizations can provide jobs to people who are hard of hearing. Most often they are offered vacancies as cleaners, loaders, support workers and engineers. But over the past few years, taxi passengers have increasingly encountered hearing-impaired drivers. In Russia, completely deaf drivers can drive passenger cars with or without trailers, motorcycles and mopeds.

According to estimates by the All-Russian Society of the Deaf (VOG), there are about 300 thousand people living in Russia who have lost their hearing completely or partially at an early age, or with congenital hearing defects. Such people usually either cannot hear from birth or lost their hearing in childhood, but most of them speak sign language.
