“Alexey Kokorin today, October 2, made a deliberate decision to resign as governor of the Kurgan region in connection with the transition to a new job,” the press service of the regional government said.

Kokorin has been in charge of the Kurgan region since 2014.

The head of the Lipetsk region, Oleg Korolev, said that he had submitted a request to the president to be transferred to a new position.

“I have been in charge of the region for twenty-six years. For the twenty-first year I have been working as the head of the administration of the Lipetsk region, before that I was the chairman of the regional Council of Deputies for six years. I think that we have traveled this historical path with dignity. This gives me every reason to conclude that it is time to make way for the young. My generation had to save the Lipetsk region and the country in the difficult nineties, and we coped with this successfully. There are many achievements ahead, new bold plans. This is the business of the young. It's time to give way to the youth," Korolyov said in a statement .

President Vladimir Putin appointed new heads: Vadim Shumkov to the Kurgan region and Igor Artamonov to the Lipetsk region.
