In Karelia, historian Sergei Koltyrin was arrested in a pedophilia case

The Medvezhyegorsk District Court of Karelia has taken into custody until November 27 the historian Sergei Koltyrin, who was detained the day before, writes "7 × 7".

The meeting was held behind closed doors. Koltyrin and his friend Yevgeny Nosov, who was also arrested, are accused of depraved acts against a minor (part 4 of article 135 of the Criminal Code).

According to investigators, in September 2018, two men committed indecent acts against a 13-year-old teenager. Interfax claims that on October 2 Koltyrin confessed.

At the meeting, Koltyrin's interests were represented by a lawyer by appointment, Elena Morozova. According to 7×7, in the future, Koltyrin will be defended in court by lawyer Viktor Anufriev, who will arrive in Medvezhyegorsk on October 7 to get acquainted with the case materials. The publication also writes that the second person involved in the case, Yevgeny Nosov, has no defense counsel.

• Sergei Koltyrin is the director of the Medvezhyegorsk Regional Museum, which manages the Sandarmokh memorial. In August, he was appointed curator of the excavations at Sandarmokh, which were conducted by the Russian Military Historical Society.
• According to 7×7, Koltyrin criticized the hypothesis of Karelian historians that there could be burials of victims of the Finnish occupation of 1941-1944 in Sandarmokh - the director of the museum insisted that the memorial contained only execution pits of political prisoners.
• One of the discoverers of Sandarmokh, the head of the local Memorial, Yuri Dmitriev , is also on trial for pedophilia, and is currently under arrest.
