The magazine "New Poland" is closed

The socio-political and literary magazine "New Poland", published in Poland in Russian, will be closed in two months.

This was reported by the poet Anastasia Vekshina. She quotes the scan of the letter of the poet and translator of Polish literature Igor Belov, in which he asks the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of Poland Peter Glinsky, “save the New Poland magazine from faithful death”.

The New Poland magazine has been published since 1999, it was created on the initiative of the publicist and politician of the hedgehog Gedroits (1906–2000), the first editor of the publication was the writer, theatrical critic and translator of Jerzy Smmyanovsky (1921–2016).

“For a huge number of readers in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, New Poland is a rich source about the culture of Poland, its history and modernity. On the pages of the magazine from number to number, new translations of the works of Polish writers and poets are published, a public discussion is conducted regarding many modern problems. "New Poland" also serves as an important matter of propaganda of Polish culture east of the borders of Poland, contributing to the creation of a positive image of the country in the eyes of neighbors. Recently, with sadness, it has to be observed how the very existence of the magazine is naught, ”writes Igor Belov.

Previously, the New Poland published the Institute of the Book in Krakow. Now, he reports, "this function goes to the center of the Polish-Russian dialogue and consent."

“This decision has already entailed the dismissal of the editorial office of the magazine - a professional and experimental team,” the letter says. Its author also reminds the Minister that six months ago the paper version of the magazine was eliminated, and expresses "fears that as a result of all these absolutely illogical combinations, the character and spirit of the magazine irrevocably change, and one name will remain from him, if at least something remains."
