I was deeply moved by the message about the appeal of the former head of Mari El Markelov, who is being held in the Lefortovo detention center, to Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika regarding the “torture conditions of detention.”
Of course, the conditions of detention in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center are not comfortable, but, in my opinion, such conditions of detention of prisoners in this particular detention center do not provide for a solarium and other attributes of idle pastime. Here's "Charcot's Shower" - it's all right. But demanding more from law enforcement agencies is not fair.
In addition, it must be taken into account that the state fulfills its responsibilities for maintaining prisoners to the extent that the country’s budget allows.
And thanks to bribe takers like Markelov, the Russian budget suffered heavy losses.
Prisoner Markelov should be more modest and learn to balance his needs with the capabilities of the State Treasury he stole.
And the threats of the former embezzler to appeal to the ECHR on this issue look completely far-fetched and absolutely groundless. The one person who shouldn't be complaining is Markelov. In comparison with pensioners from Mari El, he looks quite presentable.
