
The Catalan opera singer Montserrat Kabalier died at the age of 85, according to the Spanish publications El Espanol , El País , El Mundo . She died on Saturday morning, October 6, at the San Pau Hospital in Barcelona.

Montserrat Kabalier (the full name of Maria de Montserrat Vivian Consenspcion Kabalier and Folk) was born on April 12, 1933 in Barcelona, receiving the name in honor of the local sacred mountain, where the monastery of St. Maria Montserrat is located.
The voice of Kabalier is considered one of the greatest soprano of the 20th century. It is known for the technique of virtuoso singing Belcanto and the performance of roles in classical Italian operas Joakkino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donitnitti.
Caballe began to perform in European opera theaters in the 1950s, and world fame came to her in 1965, when, due to the disease of the American opera star, Marilyn Horn Kabalier replaced her at the Donitsetti opera “Lucretia Bornegia” on the stage of the New York Carnegie Hall. After this performance, Kabalier deserved 20-minute appliances.
During her career, Diva performed almost 90 roles and about 800 chamber works. Caballe was called "Senor Soprano" and "Great Primadon". The singer worked with outstanding orchestras and conductors of our time - Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karayan, James Livine, George Sholti.
She performed with the famous tenors of Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, and also contributed to the career of Jose Carreras, who later became one of her favorite scene partners.
Kabalier gained fame among the performers of rock music. Diva was friends with the leader of Queen Freddy Mercury, releasing with him in 1988 a joint album of Barcelona. His title song became the anthem of the summer Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992 and a world hit. In 1997, the singer released the “Friends for Life” disc with works of rock and pop music.
The singer repeatedly visited Russia, her last concert in Moscow took place in June 2018 as part of a tour, dedicated to her 85th anniversary.
In June 2010, during the concert, Kabalier fell and seriously damaged the left knee, after which she was treated for a long time. In 2012, the singer suffered a microstroke during Russian tour and damaged her shoulder.
Caballe was engaged in charity work. The entire fee in Paris dedicated to its 60th anniversary, the singer handed over to the World WASS Fund recalls TASS. In November 2000, in the framework of the international program "Peace - Children", she spoke in Moscow with a concert, the funds from which went to the aid of gifted children with disabilities.
Kabalier was awarded the orders and medals of various countries, including the Spanish Order of Isabella Catholic, the French Order of Arts and Literature, the Russian Order of Friendship. It was marked by several Grammy awards, including for the best vocal solo.

In 2015, the Barcelona court sentenced Caballe to six months in prison and payment of a fine of 255 thousand euros on charges of fraud in connection with hiding income and financial manipulations. It was about 500 thousand euros of income, which Kabalier hid, imitating her residence in Andorra. The singer pleaded guilty.
