The Ministry of Justice proposed releasing pregnant prisoners on parole after serving a quarter of their sentence

The Ministry of Justice proposed releasing pregnant prisoners and convicted women who have children under three years old in the orphanage at the colony on parole after serving a quarter of their sentence or replacing the remaining part of the sentence with a more lenient one. The corresponding document was published on the federal portal of draft regulatory legal acts.

To achieve this, the Ministry of Justice proposes to amend the Criminal Code. The initiative applies only to women convicted of minor crimes.

Now, according to the Criminal Code, the court can grant a deferment of sentence for pregnant women or women who have children under 14 years of age, and those convicted of minor crimes can apply for parole only after serving a third of their sentence.
