The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation commuted the punishment of the former first deputy head of the Moscow Department of the Investigative Committee Denis Nikandrov, who was convicted of taking a bribe. It is reported by Interfax.

The court changed the category of the crime for which Nikandrov was convicted, from “especially grave” to “grave”. According to the court decision, instead of a strict regime colony, he will serve his sentence in a general regime colony.

The Supreme Court also recalculated Nikandrov's sentence under the law, which equates a day in a pre-trial detention center to a day and a half in a colony. The court considered that Nikandrov, who had been in jail for two years and three months, had served almost 3.5 years of his 5.5 years in prison. Thus, he will be released in two years.

On August 16, the Moscow City Court sentenced Denis Nikandrov to 5.5 years in prison. He was accused of taking bribes from crime boss Zakhary Kalashov (Shakro Molodoy). According to investigators, together with other members of the Investigative Committee, he contributed to the release of Andrey Kochuykov (Italian), Kalashov’s assistant, from the pre-trial detention center.
During the investigation, Nikandrov told the FSB that he had given a bribe to the head of the Moscow department of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Drymanov, for his appointment to the post of deputy head of the department and for general patronage.
