This museum is one of the most important historical museums in the world: thousands of exhibits that are exhibited in it are originals (similar frescoes that we saw in the Knosso Palace in three hours are their copies).
The museum has two floors, 16 halls. The first floor is dedicated to the Minoan and Crito-Miken eras. Most of the 2nd floor is dedicated to the Greek and Roman eras. Unfortunately, I did not visit them.
Once on the site of the museum was a monastery. Earthwork of the mid -19th century destroyed him. In the 1930s, a museum was opened on the site of the former monastery. Then the museum was reconstructed, only two of its halls worked for a very long time, but now the museum is completely open.
The purpose of most items is understandable. But not all.
Dark from time to time with concentrated rectangles, similar to made of stone. These are talents, bronze bullion made in the form of sheep's skin; It was in this form to Crete, who did not have his own minerals, that bronze entered.
Rectangular stone boxes with lids painted from the outside. These are tombs for the burial of the dead.
Also stone and decorated boxes, but without lids and with rounded edges. This is bathtubs for bathing.
Vessels with a thread with a hole below were called Riton. These vessels were of a ritual character: after the murder of the bull, they poured a mixture of bull blood and wine in them in the place where the mixture was supposed to leak and impregnate the earth.
