The other day, Google announced that she would soon begin to charge a fee from manufacturers of Android devices for pre-installations for gadgets intended for the European market, Google's branded applications, including the Google Play store. Contrary to expectations, in some cases the size of this board will be very solid.
As follows from the documents that came to the disposal of The Verge , Google will introduce a new payment mechanism after February 1, 2019, and the cost of installing the company's application set to a smartphone will vary depending on the country for which the gadget is intended and the density of pixels of the device screen. So, in the UK, Sweden, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands, manufacturers will have to pay Google $ 40 for installing applications on devices with a dimensional display density of over 500 inch (PPI). For gadgets with an indicator of 400-500 PPI, you will have to pay $ 20, and for devices with less high-quality screens, the fee will be $ 10. In other European countries, the board will be lower-in some places for installing applications on a smartphone with pixels density less than 400 PPI will have to pay only $ 2.5.
The Verge notes that the choice of this particular characteristics of smartphones for their differentiation raises questions, although it can be assumed that Google proceeded from the direct connection between the quality of the display and the price of the smartphone. So, the screen of the flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S9 has a 570 ppi pixel density.
At the same time, for tablets, Google intends to introduce a much more simple payment system - manufacturers will have to pay $ 20 for installing Google applications for any European country.
At the same time, companies that agree to the applications install the Chrome browser and place it on the desktop will be able to compensate for part of the costs of installing applications due to payments by the owners of the Google search devices. Companies that have refused the pre -installation of the browser will be deprived of the right to this part of the revenue.
Recall that the intention to take up the installation of applications in the company was connected with the July decision of the European Commission to finish Google for a record 4.34 billion euros for the company forced manufacturers to install the Google browser and the search application of Google on devices.
According to the representative of the European Commission, the decision of the regulator to fine Google did not provide for the mandatory introduction of the company for pre -installation of applications - this Google system introduces of his own free will. At the same time, the European Commission intends to carefully monitor the company in order to make sure that Google no longer violates the law.
