The Moscow authorities agreed on the action "Return of names" at the Solovetsky stone on the Lubyanka. Elena Zhemkova, member of the board of International Memorial, told OVD-Info about this.
According to her, a large meeting was held today with the participation of the Moscow mayor's office. Representatives of the authorities and "Memorial" managed to agree that the action would take place on October 29 from 10 am to 10 pm.
Yan Rachinsky, chairman of the board of International Memorial, told the Ekho Moskvy radio station that representatives of the mayor's office and Memorial met at the Solovetsky stone, where construction is underway, to assess the possibility of holding the action.
On September 19, the mayor's office withdrew the approval of the action, which for the past 11 years has been held annually at the Solovetsky Stone on October 29. The authorities explained the refusal by "newly discovered circumstances during the repair and construction work." The next day, the organizers of the "Return of Names" received a call from the mayor's office and were invited to a meeting at the Solovetsky Stone to discuss the approval of the action.
