A new airport has been opened in Istanbul. It will be the largest in the world and will be able to accommodate 200 million passengers a year.

Istanbul hosted the opening ceremony of a new airport, which is planned to become the world's largest in terms of passenger traffic in the coming years.

According to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at the initial stage, the airport will be able to receive 90 million passengers a year, and by 2023, after all stages of construction are completed, this number will increase to 200 million.

The first commercial flight from the new airport will take place on 31 October.

• The current Istanbul Ataturk Airport is one of the twenty largest in the world (63 million passengers in 2017). After the transfer of flights to the new airport, the old one will be closed, and a park will be laid out in its place.
