Armenia dissolves parliament to hold snap elections

Deputies of the National Assembly of Armenia refused to elect Nikol Pashinyan as prime minister for the second time, after which the parliament was dissolved in accordance with the Constitution, Interfax reports.

Nikol Pashinyan announced that snap parliamentary elections will be held on December 9.

• On October 16, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan resigned to force early parliamentary elections . Pashinyan had previously agreed that MPs would not support his candidacy for the post of prime minister and would not nominate their own candidates.
• Nikol Pashinyan came to power in May 2018, after Serzh Sargsyan (who had previously served as Armenia's president for many years) resigned as prime minister amid mass protests.
