Artist Oscar Rabin dies

Artist Oscar Rabin has died at the age of 90. This was reported by Radio Liberty with reference to his relatives.

The radio station reports that Rabin died in Paris. The newspaper "Culture" writes with reference to the Russian Embassy in the Vatican that this happened in Florence, where the artist came to the opening of the exhibition .

Oscar Rabin has been called a “classic of nonconformism” and “ the leader of the Moscow avant-garde.” He was expelled from the art institute “for formalism” and worked on the railroad; in the 1950s he became one of the founders of the Lianozovo Group, which became one of the most influential unofficial creative associations in the USSR.

In 1974, Rabin organized an exhibition in a vacant lot on the outskirts of Moscow, which went down in history as “Bulldozer” - it was destroyed with the help of bulldozers and watering machines. In 1977, after being accused of parasitism, he left for Europe and was soon deprived of Soviet citizenship. In the 2000s, exhibitions of Rabin's works were held in Moscow at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and the Tretyakov Gallery.
