In Voronezh, doctors amputated a pensioner’s left leg instead of her right

In Voronezh, an 89-year-old pensioner amputated her left leg instead of her right. This was reported on the website of the regional Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee (IC).

The department said that the son of the victim turned to law enforcement agencies, who wrote in his statement that on November 4, his mother in the city hospital No. 3 had an amputation of the left leg, and not the right, although there was no medical indication for this.

The local agency RIA Voronezh reports that the pensioner's name is Maria Dronova, and her second leg, which is affected by gangrene, has now been amputated.

The Department of Health of the Voronezh Region told the agency that "the choice of treatment tactics was determined by the patient's condition, the course of the disease and comorbidities", and the condition of the left leg "due to acute circulatory disorders posed the greatest threat to the patient's life" and noted that doctors can evaluate the work of doctors give only experts.

The IC is currently conducting a pre-investigation check on the fact of the incident. The Federal Service for Supervision of Health Care (Roszdravnadzor) reported that they also intend to check the quality of medical services provided to the pensioner.
