Chinese government agency unveils first robot presenters

The Chinese state agency Xinhua unveiled the first robot hosts.

In total, two versions have been created - one announcer speaks Chinese, the other speaks English. In both cases, real presenters are taken as models, whose facial expressions, pronunciation and manner of speech are transferred to robots with the help of artificial intelligence.

• The agency claims that robots can work for 24 hours , reducing broadcaster costs, and read the news as well as a professional announcer .
• However, not everyone agrees with the last statement. "It's quite difficult to watch for more than a few minutes," Oxford University professor Michael Wooldridge tells the BBC.
• The Chinese search engine Sogou participated in the creation of robots. Xinhua intends to recruit them for breaking news and social media work .
