"Illusion" will represent the retrospective of Mikhail Kalik

From November 10 to 24, the Moscow Cinema “Illuzion” will host a retrospective of director Mikhail Kalik (1927-2017).

The program has seven films:

• Ataman Kodr (1958, USSR), dir. Mikhail Kalik, Boris Knightzarev, Olga Ulitskaya;
• “Youth of our fathers” (1958, USSR), dir. Mikhail Kalik, Boris Knightsarev;
• “And the wind is returning ...” (1991, Russia-Ssha), dir. Mikhail Kalik;
• “Love” (1968, USSR), dir. Mikhail Kalik, Inna Tumanyan;
• “Man goes beyond the sun” (1961, USSR), dir. Mikhail Kalik;
• “Goodbye, boys” (1964, USSR), dir. Mikhail Kalik;
• "Lullaby" (1959, USSR), dir. Mikhail Kalik.

“Kalik’s work was little studied: it was forbidden to write about it in the USSR - after the emigration of the director to Israel in 1971, any mention of him disappeared from the press (up to the exception of his name from materials about the graduates of VGIK). Despite the fact that more than twenty years have passed since the director returned to the domestic screen, during which time a few articles on his work appeared, ”the organizers of retrospective on the Illusion website reported.

“Retrospective in Illusion,” they write, “a rare opportunity to see seven films of this significant director on the 35-mm film, including the extremely rare“ Youth of our Fathers ”(1958) and“ Lullaby ”(1959).”
