The mayor of Makhachkala was placed under house arrest in the case of abuse of power

The Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala placed the acting mayor of the city, Abusupyan Gasanov, under house arrest for 10 days, who is suspected of abuse of power (Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code), TASS reports .

Judge Murad Gyulmagomedov said that if Gasanov is charged within 10 days, the preventive measure will be extended for 2 months.

The mayor was detained on November 7. As reported by the FSB, Gasanov’s case is related to an auction for road construction work. According to Kommersant ’s source in law enforcement agencies, the case was opened after employees of the antimonopoly service checked the concluded municipal contracts and found violations amounting to 180 million rubles.

The publication writes that the mayor made sure that only one company could participate in the auction - the Dormost research and production association. The investigation estimates the damage from Hasanov’s actions at 35 million rubles.

Gasanov became acting mayor of Makhachkala in January, following the arrest of his predecessor Musa Musaev. In October, the court sentenced Musaev to four years in a general regime colony for five counts of abuse of power causing grave consequences (clause “c” of Part 3 and Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code).
